Northern Virginia Residential Property Tax Rates for 2011

When considering where to live and where to purchase your next home, one thing to take into account is the property tax rates of the county or city.  While not the only or necessarily most important consideration, it is one item you should certainly factor in when making your decision.

Property Taxes in Northern Virginia

For your consideration, here's the new property tax rates effective July 1, 2011 for the local jurisdictions in Northern Virginia.

Fiscal Year 2011-2012 Northern Virginia Residential Real Estate Tax Rates
(all rates are per $100 of assessed value)

City of Alexandria           $0.998

Arlington County             $0.958        

Town of Clifton                $1.07

City of Fairfax                 $0.965

Fairfax County                $1.07

City of Falls Church          $1.27

Town of Herndon             $1.335

Loudoun County              $1.285

Prince William County       $1.204

Town of Vienna                $1.3121

So, for example, the yearly taxes on your $500,000 house would be as follows:

Alexandria:  $4,990     Fairfax County:  $5,350   Falls Church:  $6,350   Vienna:  $6,560.50

I see PWC gets a brief mention, but I can't figure out the tax on a $500K house. 

And even though my assessments went down, miraculously, in each of the past many years my taxes have increased.  How is that so?
