Unlike the 1990s television show "Northern Exposure," when searching for a home, most homebuyers want their home to have Southern Exposure.
Why?
In the Northern Hemisphere (where we all live & where I sell real estate), the sun comes from the South and thus a home that faces South is able to take more advantage of solar energy. Solar panels on roofs should be placed on the south side of the roof. Plants and flowers that require lots of sunlight grow best with southern exposure.
When I first bought an iPhone, I wondered why there was a compass function built in to the phone. After all, how many of you walk around with a compass everywhere you go? However, I've learned just how valuable it can be. Especially since many clients want to know which way their home or a window faces.

Whether you're searching for a house that faces North, South, East, or West,
in Northern Virginia real estate, you can search with me. (I'll have my trusty iPhone compass with me)

Hi Brian ~ I'm an up-down, left-right person. I think if I had a compass (and maybe I do if there's a Droid app!) I wouldn't know how to use it. No question though - it's helpful in real estate.

Hey Brian I bet I know where you can get some great fashion jewelry:)
Does southern exposure make for good or bad feng shui?
I have been getting clients recently that have looked at the direction of the front door as a major reason to buy or not buy a home. I tread lightly as to the origin of this "rule", and most of the clients seem reserved about the explanation, but I sense it is a religious reason from the Far East. Anyone have a blog post for this education?
